In his last speech the dictator of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, while speaking about the legitimate government of Armenia, allowed himself to make assessments that are appropriate exclusively for his government. Lilit Makunts, the leader of the NA "My Step" faction, wrote about this on her Facebook page.
"First of all Aliyev forgets that he is talking about a victorious state that has jointly defended the right of his compatriots to live freely in Artsakh.
Second, on the way to strengthening democracy within our state, we can have different approaches to different political forces, even contradictory ones, but we have proved more than once that we have no obstacles in the way of protecting the security of our people and homeland together.
Aliyev, who avoids direct communication with his own people, tries to downplay the role and significance of real democracy by misinformation in order to justify his dictatorship, which I am sure it is quite obvious for certain part of the society criticizing Aliyev in Azerbaijan and for international community. With this step, Aliyev demonstrates all his fears about democratic processes.
In fact Aliyev's speech can lead to the conclusion that the steps taken by our state aimed at security, strengthening the army and strengthening democracy cause deep concern and panic in the president of Azerbaijan.
After all this, he must clearly realize that there is no alternative to peace, and any encroachment or provocation by Azerbaijan will be met with more than adequate counterattack", Makunts wrote.
