During the discussion of the motion to deprive Gagik Tsarukyan of immunity, the Speaker of the National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan said that a very serious act is being blamed on a man who is the leader of the party, the parliamentary faction.
"It's easy to fall into the trap and start politicizing the legal process. I suggest separating the political and legal part of the case. We all have our assessments of the PAP, but I must refrain from expressing it now so that it is not perceived as a straightening of the legal system or a violation of the presumption of innocence.
It is very easy to demand the resignation of the government when you know that legal proceedings have been initiated for a long time, which may reveal your participation in the act prohibited by law”, Mirzoyan said.
He asked if it was pleasant to hear that any political force demanded the resignation of the government and the answer is - no. But they have struggled to make it possible that people to demand the resignation of the government, regardless of whether the public agrees or not.
"Everyone is equal before the law regardless of whether they are party leaders, businessmen, investors or not. Political weight does not absolve from responsibility. We hope that the investigation will find out that Gagik Tsarukyan is not guilty of the act he is accused of, and we will take him back to the parliament. "Let no one threaten anyone, everything must go according to the laws and the Constitution", Mirzoyan said.
Mirzoyan also stated that Gagik Tsarukyan was not taken to the NSS against the will, and he could not be deprived of his liberty until the National Assembly gave its consent.
