Today in parliament the deputy of the NA "My Step" faction Mkhitar Hayrapetyan touched upon the activity of the mass media, media literacy and "its absence in the country".
Hayrapetyan noted that in the past there was a bad practice in relations between the authorities and media. According to him, the ministries paid money not only for covering their work, but also to remain silent.
"In fact, for years, individual officials and politicians, paid from the state budget, wanted that certain media outlet simply does not write articles with bad content or bad headlines about given official or his relatives. In many media outlets it's impossible to find any negative articles about many officials", the MP said.
Mkhitar Hayrapetyan informed that the legislative reforms in the field of television and radio will be followed by the reforms of the Law on Mass Media.
"There can be no government in Armenia that will shut down any website. But as there must be new regulations in the field of television and radio, there also must be new mechanisms in the media field to ensure equality and justice for all”, said Hayrapetyan.
The MP also mentioned that the state should carry out educational work with the society on media literacy.
