Today, the Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan, speaking in parliament, touched upon the "Lanzarote Convention", which is the Council of Europe Convention on the "Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse". The Convention was ratified by the RA National Assembly yesterday.
Tatoyan noted that he considers the ratification of that convention important, it will contribute to the elimination of cases of child molestation. "Armenia is the last among the post-Soviet countries, and the penultimate in Europe, which did not ratify this convention", Tatoyan reminded.
Armenia signed the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse in 2010. Yesterday it was ratified by 79 votes in favor and 14 against.
The ratification of this convention has caused some criticism in the press and on social networks.
