Today, Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan, while presenting his 2019 report in the parliament, noted that progress has been made in Armenia in terms of freedom of speech.
Tatoyan spoke about hate speech and intolerance, which is considered one of the main challenges to freedom of speech in the world. And that is mainly spread in social media.
"One of the most worrying issues of 2019 is the development of insults, hatred and degrading speech. This vicious cycle has reached unacceptable proportions on social media. Particularly, aggression is widespread through false users and groups. Any kind of hate speech should be completely eliminated. One should not use words that degrade human dignity. This situation is dangerous, because it can lead to violence in real life", said Tatoyan.
The Human Rights Defender called on the public not to get involved in any discussions that are full of hate speech and threats.
