The night of October 16, at 04:30, the police officers from Arabkir Department noticed two people near the Victory Park. They, catching sight of the patrol car, started escaping. The officers gave chase and reached them on Azatutyan Avenue. The suspects resisted arrest. One of them grabbed the gun of one of the officers and shot officer Tigran Arakelyan, as well as hit the other officer with the gun. The suspects fled the crime site. Officer Arakelyan (38) died of the gunshot. A criminal case has been initiated over the incident to identify and discover the suspects.
