The only candidate nominated by the RPA and RFA was Serzh Sargsyan.
For the first time in the history of Armenia, the Prime Minister was elected by the National Assembly. The only candidate nominated by the RPA, holding the majority of votes in the Parliament, and their coalitional partner RFA was Serzh Sargsyan. He was elected by a vote of 77-17 in an open vote.
