Israeli opposition party Yesh Atid has started a petition in the Parliament to include the bill on official recognition of the Armenian Genocide in the agenda of the Knesset. In an interview with Armenpress, the leader of the party Yair Lapid said that previous Israeli governments have avoided officially recognizing the Armenian Genocide as a result of misguided strategic calculations.
“We should have recognized the Armenian Genocide long ago because above all it is morally the right thing to do. With the aggressive behavior of President Erdogan, now there are no more excuses for anyone to avoid doing the right thing,” said Lapid.
