Food Safety Service of Armenia has reacted to the scandal disseminated through social networks concerning the sale of apples imported from Azerbaijan. Having conducted a three-day survey in Yerevan and regional markets, the Service made sure the apples are indeed from Azerbaijan. The sale has been banned immediately and the fruit stands have been assigned to destroy the fruit.
The inspection urges consumers to immediately call the hotline that can be reached at 010 20 60 40 upon noticing Azerbaijani fruit again. The Food Safety Service has already submitted available information to the police, for them to figure out how come Azerbaijani apples appeared in our markets, if we have only imported apples from Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Georgia and Italy within this month.
Laboratory investigation on Azerbaijani apples will be presented in 10 days.
