A gunman attacked the Ambassador. Turkish government has not reacted to the murder yet, while Russian President Vladimir Putin has assigned to compile a detailed report on the incident.
As it turned later the murder was committed by Mevlut Mert Altintas, born in 1994, who had served 2.5 years for Ankara's riot police unit. Altintas was shot dead in the aftermath.
Both Turkish and Russian governments have announced the organizers of Ambassador Karlov's murder aimed at sabotaging normalization of Russo-Turkish relations, and the joint fight against terrorism. Russian President Putin mentioned he will strengthen further struggle against terror in response to this murder.
