As of 2015, the poverty rate in Armenia comprises 29.8 percent. The total amount of people living in poverty reaches 900 thousand. The following data was published in “Social Snapshot and Poverty in Armenia” Article 17, by National Statistics Service of RA. Statistics are based on the consumptions expenditures, since that is the most accurate means to determine people’s wellbeing. Statisticians state between the years 2008-2015, monthly consumption expenditures for three out of 10 citizens comprised 41 698 AMD, which is below the upper poverty line.
Those citizens whose monthly expenditures comprised maximum 24 109 AMD are considered extremely poor. The report states, global financial crisis has mostly affected the poverty rate, and has had a negative impact on production, on income and consumption. In 2008 the index of extreme poverty for one adult comprised 17 644 AMD. According to statisticians poverty reduction index is gradually approaching that of 2008.
