October 24th marks the United Nations Day. UN Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. US president Franklin Roosevelt suggested the name of “United Nation”, which was first used in 1942. The UN principal organs are General Assembly, Security Council, Economic and Social Council and the Secretariat.
Trygve Lie was the first Secretary General of the UN. Ban Ki-moon is the incumbent Secretary General. António Guterres is the Secretary General-designate of the UN starting from January 1st.
