On September 27th, Regional Council of Basilicata, unanimously recognized the Armenian Genocide, and expressed its support to the Armenian people. Independent MP Aureli Pace submitted the draft resolution on the Armenian Genocide upon the request made by the Armenian community.
The resolution states the historical reality of the Armenian Genocide has been recognized by numerous international organizations, as well as by the Turkish military tribunal in 1919. The document also stresses about the necessity to inform the public about the tragedy of the Armenian people, especially raising awareness among the young generation aiming at preventing similar crimes in the future.
Regional Council of Basilicata, at the level of local self-government bodies in Italy, is already the 108th Council to recognize the Armenian Genocide.
