The session was held in a tensed atmosphere. Representative of the US and Great Britain have strictly condemned Russia’s actions in Syria calling the latter barbarism, not counter-terrorism.
Russia backs Syrian President Bashar al-Assad against rebels seeking to topple him. But Russia defended its position.
"In Syria hundreds of armed groups are being armed, the territory of the country is being bombed indiscriminately and bringing a peace is almost an impossible task now because of this," Russian UN Ambassador Vitaly Churkin told the council.
While Bashaar Jafari - the current Permanent Representative of the Syrian Arab Republic to the UN in New York city, has blamed the organizers of the meeting –the western countries, for supporting terrorism , announcing that the Syrian government has no intentions to yield any land.
