Istanbul based Armenian public figure, journalist, former editor-in-chief at Agos bilingual newspaper, Hrant Dink would mark his 62nd birthday today.
Starting from early youth Dink was attracted by the leftists, and was engaged in politics. Exactly 20 years ago Agos newspaper published its first edition. Dink also worked for Zaman and Birgün periodicals. Overt prosecution against him began once he published an article entitled “The Secret of Sabiha Gokcen”, revealing that Ataturk’s adopted daughter was a Genocide survivor, an Armenian, who was, by the way, Turkey’s first woman pilot. Turkish national newspaper Hürriyet and a number of other newspapers called Dink a traitor, preparing grounds for his murder. OnJanuary 19th 2007 Turkey’s “White Dove” was assassinated right in front of Agos. Dink’s murder trial was one of the many shameful cases in Turkey.
