The signed document is not yet a guarantee for transparent and free elections, yet it is a serious milestone, on which a fair and free electoral reality can be built on.
Five fractions of National Assembly (except for “Heritage”) signed an agreements on the introduction of the monitoring mechanism on electoral processes.
The agreement stipulates to publish the voting lists right after the voting, as well as introduce cameras in all the polling stations and record the entire electoral process. These are the demands the main opposition forces had long been requiring starting from 2011.
Prior to document signing, ANC leader Levon Zurabyan announced the documents is what they had long been asking for from the authorities. “Despite our contradictions, I cannot abstain from speaking about the political will the authorities have. I must express gratitude to the representatives of civic society, who have had active contribution in this respect.” Zurabyan then stated the signed document is not yet a guarantee for transparent and free elections, yet it is a serious milestone, on which a fair and free electoral reality can be built.
