Following a long lasting severe disease, Hrachya Tamrazyan, Director of Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts (Matenadaran) passed away on September 3rd.
He was born on December 5th, 1953. Tamrazyan was a graduate of Yerevan State University, Department of Armenian Philology : his career started with his employment at the Matenadaran in 1977, rising from junior laboratory assistant to junior and senior researcher. Tamrazyan has been a member of the Writers’ House of Armenia starting from1986. He was an editor-in-chief of Sovetakan Grogh (Soviet House) publishing house from 1988 till 1991. Later, in 1993, he became director of Nayiri publishing house.
In 1999, Tamrazyan received a doctoral degree in Philology. He has been running the post of director to Matenadaran starting from 2007. In 2014, he became a correspondent member of the National Academy of Sciences.
An author of a range of monographs and scientific articles, Tamrazyan focused his research mainly on the medieval period, particularly the literary heritage left behind by Grigor Narekatsi.
