The solemn opening ceremony of the annual 73rd Venice International Film Festival kicked off on the Lido Island. Jury members walked on the red carpet accompanied by English director Sam Mendes, abundant of quests and festival participants. The ceremony was held at the Cinema Palace, with previously announced opener, Damien Chazelle’s La La Land (Emma Stone in the leading role) being screened. 78-year old Polish director Jerzy Skolimowski received Lifetime Achievement Golden Lion. The festival will last 10 days, during which both the jury and the guests will enjoy the screening of 20 films.
