President Serzh Sargsyan has issued the following statement on the occasion of International Knowledge Day:
"Dear schoolchildren and students, teachers and parents,
I cordially congratulate you on September 1st , the start of the academic year.
It was once important to propagate the importance of knowledge; however, in the 21st century there is no doubt about that. Knowledge has become the most powerful weapon and tool in the world for every individual and society, in general. We all see the readiness and dedication parents put together to provide their children with good education.
We are consistently taking measures to improve our educational system. We do realize there are issues that need to be fixed at schools and institutions of higher learning. These issues mostly refer to the level of education, we are not satisfied with. We are concerned not because perfection has no limits but, the pace of development has rapidly increased nowadays. We have to keep up with the world. We have to accelerate the development of education.
We should also make good education affordable for all. No teenager should lose the opportunity to receive good education only because they cannot afford the latter.
However, given the performance our schoolchildren have had at international competitions, our schools have done quite well. Our school is competitive; however, we should not be satisfied with these results, rather strive to raise the bar of our requirements every year, otherwise, we will fall behind the developing world.
Once again I congratulate you all on Knowledge Day and wish you an academic year full of success and achievements.
