Upon completion of works on boundary delimitation between Armenia and Georgia, the only route towards Khuchap monastery is through the 20 km long forest track from Jiliza. The road is quite difficult to pass. Our group of pilgrims is taking the road towards Khuchap in a Soviet Ural vehicle. Another alternative can serve either walking there or on a horseback. According to medieval historian Vardan Areveltsi’s records, the monastery was built for Chalcedonian Armenians by Ivane Zakaryan in the 13th century.
