Brazilian football legend, 75-year-old Pele has been invited to light the Olympic cauldron for the 31st Olympic Games at the Maracana - the stadium where he scored his 1,000th goal in 1969.
Pele told reporters that International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach and the head of the Brazilian committee Carlos Arthur Nuzman had personally asked him to light the cauldron. However, he has to check this with his sponsors, and a final decision will be announced a day prior to the solemn ceremony at Rio Games.
