Petropavlovsk fortress was built in Saint Petersburg under Peter the Great’s decree of May 27th, 1703, and French architect Joseph Lambert de Guerin’s project. Currently the fortress is part of Saint Petersburg History Museum, while years ago the latter served as a prison block for high ranking political figures and the intelligentsia.
