“We were students at Geography faculty. Two of my friends and I were senior students, waiting for the notes from military commissar. We did not hear from them, so decided to check in ourselves. At first, I studied 6 months in Tbilisi school of Military Staff of Transcaucasia, where afterwards I was hired to work in the department of encrypting telegrams.”
Doctor of Science veteran Mkrtchyan is a phenologist by profession. He remembers most of his coworkers by names, he can even tell their titles.
With a smile on his face he remembers the story about the “back note” telling about his death.
“I was wounded the front in the Ukraine: I was hospitalized and transferred to Baku, where my parents lived.” My mom visited me frequently, when one day she came in with the black note about my death. After I had been wounded, my fellow soldiers, thinking I was dead, went on chasing the retreated German soldiers, while I remained in the back.”
Doctor Mkrtchyan still carefully keeps all the recollections and the quotations from periodicals in his folder. He has marked his route on the map of Zhitomr, a region near Kiev. “I got an invitation from the Ukraine in the 80’s, to visit the areas liberated by us.” The veteran still shares his memories from the War, writing articles for periodicals about his recollections. However, I have not shared any recollections this year. Here you are. I have highlighted those special episodes and events I must write about. There are a lot of things to recall and record.”
