In General Military Investigative Department a criminal case was initiated on the violation of the norms stipulated by treaties of international humanitarian law. According to the Investigative Committee, through the efforts of International Committee of the Red Cross and the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, the bodies of the 18 servicemen were transferred to the Armenian side. Through external inspection of the bodies the experts reported numerous injuries, traces of torture and defamation.
Forensic examinations were commissioned by the investigative body to find the causes of death of each of the servicemen, the nature of injuries and their gravity, as well as detect the exact time of the injuries - before or after death.
