RA President Serzh Sargsyan participated in the funeral of the victim in NKR contact line military operations, private soldier, machine gunner, contracted serviceman Sasun Fahrad Mkrtchyan. The funeral was held in “Yerablur” military cemetery.
During the funeral service the President expressed his condolences:
“Dear countryman, parents of Sasun Mkrtchyan, relatives and friends,
Today we are here to send Armenian soldier to immortality. A soldier who glorified his parents. We have come here to bow before the heroism of Sasun Mkrtchyan and other martyrs.
Those who argue or doubt how come Armenia made it to the 21st century given the region it is located in, should realize that the answer lies right here, in the conscience of martyrs buried here. Conscious death is immortality. We fought to defend our home, our family and identity. Our existence is the most eloquent proof of how well we can fight. People of Armenia have seen the change of ethnic and religious groups on this region. Different people have come and left, and they will still be coming, however we have been, are and will always be, because we know the formula for eternal life.
I am sure we will handle this challenge with honor. Azerbaijani authorities, blinded by the hatred towards Armenians, drunk from the smell of oil, cannot understand that it is not only about the amount of tanks: the power is in the light deriving from the new generation of Artsakh and Armenia, and this is what has made us all united, with a united fist which will hit the enemy who threatens our security.
I must say that we are not armed with illusions, neither do we have powerful sponsors, but we have the sympathy of the righteous world. We possess everything to protect our home and our homeland.
Dear Sasun, be sure that we are to continue your holy work and that of your friends, Rest in peace, Homeland Soldier.
