The recent days’ violent protests in Turkey have given rise to new passions. Several days ago the violence against peaceful demonstrators in Istanbul was followed by another one, this time against women. The Turkish Police dispersed hundreds of demonstrators gathered in Istanbul central square to celebrate International women’s day. In protection to their rights, the demonstrators were wearing violet banners to raise the issue about violations of women’s rights in Turkey.
Despite the decision of city authorities on banning the protest, women tried to start a march with anti-government slogans. The police used rubber bullets to disperse demonstrators. One activist has been arrested.
