Armenian death caravans had passed through Sinjar area bordering Western Armenia. Here, at the end of Ottoman Empire’s power, Orthodox Assyrians had built Blessed Virgin Mary Church, where Armenians had been holding public service for many years. Later, Armenian Catholic community prayed in the small church built by them, carrying the name St. George or Jerojs, which would later become a target for vandalism as well.
