With the establishment of Armenian EyeCare Project twenty years ago, it was not yet possible to imagine that the free of charge medical treatment for patients having sight problems, can one day turn into a regional center, being an exclusive one in its type. In 1992, Roger Ohanesian, Armenian American physician, initiated “Bringing Sight to Armenian Eyes” Program. In its framework, in all the regions of Armenia, 400 thousand people with eyesight problems have been examined during the past 20 years. There have been 20 thousand surgeries and laser procedures. For five years now, the Program has been implementing prevention of childhood blindness. It helps prevent premature and prematurely born children from blindness. The surgeries prevent the further development of those illnesses, which may lead to irrevocable consequences if not dealt with on time.
