While drawing parallels between destruction of Armenians at the beginning of the twentieth century and at the end of it, Mariam Avagyan, coordinator of the “Congress of refugees from the Azerbaijan SSR”, is totally convinced of the civilized world retaining indifference towards the fact of Armenians being treated with fascism. Like in 1915, in 1988 as well, all the great empires silently witnessed Armenians' destruction. This is a fact that can no way be denied. Given the situation, the leading countries have had their own portion of guilt for having acted indifferently, as well as the Armenian authorities and political parties for not uniting and being well-organized. For some unknown reasons, the actions in Sumgait, Baku and Gandzak are qualified not as a genocide, but mainly as a massacre.
