Because of technical problems or maybe because of the architect’s death in 1936 it was not possible to carry out the original version of the project. Tamanyan died when the height of the construction was only 1 meter.
Armenian National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet was built in 1926-1953 and was designed by Tamanyan. Ne not only designed it but also thoroughly monitored the building process. In this construction Tamanyan managed to use approaches typical to Armenian classical architecture.
Among the enormous legacy left by Alexander Tamanyan, the project of the Opera and Ballet Theater was his favorite and dearest one. At the same time, none of his construction troubled him as much as the Opera and Ballet Theater.
