The Spitak earthquake levelled to the ground the Chichkhnavank. The epicenter of the disaster, the monastery located in Nalband or Shirakamutvillage was a hidden place of pilgrimage and prayer even during Stalin years. With the help of volunteer youngsters and sponsorship of Armenians from Diaspora the church was restored.
Chichkhanavank was blessed by the leader of Gugark Diocese Archbishop Sepuh Chuljyan. The restoration architect, philanthropists a group of French-Armenian youngsters who took part in restoration and excavation and pilgrims from Shirakamut village participated in the ceremony
