Composer and conductor Konstantin Orbelyan was born in the city of Armavir. He was talented beginning from the childhood. He learned at a special school intended for gifted people adjacent to Baku Conservatory.
As a child, Konstantin witnessed his parents’ cruel destiny. Both of them were the victims of Stalin’s bloody violence. His father was arrested, and then executed, his mother was sent to a camp after the arrest. Konstantin was expelled from school, and moved to Nagorno Karabakh together with his brothers.
The young man living in a small village was admitted to work in the jazz band of an aviation corpus. After some period of time the young pianist gave concerts in Yerevan along with the military band. Shortly Konstantin was invited to the Armenian Pop Orchestra. This served as a basis for the Orbelyan School.
