The fire that broke out in the Yerevan Botanical Garden on Saturday is considered unprecedented by its size, 15 hectares territory was burned and mainly new saplings. The director of the garden explains that they can't irrigate that part, the botanical garden is 80 hectares and they are hardly able to irrigate the scientific collections, collection parts and fires easily break out in dry parts which are not irrigated. The old workers of the garden say that the last fire was unprecedented by its size.
The botanical garden acts as a part of the academy, and receives 110 million drams each year. Some academic institutions receive more, in case that besides the scientific works 80 hectares need nourishment here which supposes caretakers, gardeners, workers and irrigation water. Approximately 30 million drams are given for all that. Only two caretakers watch over the territory and the garden has only 5km fence. There is no money to give the watch to the policemen.
