The Louvre, one of the world’s largest museums and unique architectural monuments, is located in the center of Paris, Rivoli Street. The building of the museum was founded by order of King Philip Augustus in 1190. At first it used to be a resort outside of the walls of Paris.
Under the reign of Louis XV the huge fortress became a royal residence. And after the French revolution it turned into a museum of world significance. In 1983 the Louvre pyramid was built in the middle of the Napoleon Square of the Louvre Palace, which raised a wave of confusion in society.
The pyramid is considered to be a modern-style building, built of 666 glass pieces, thanks to which it differs from the architecture of the neighborhood. Thanks to that very contrast the museum is one of the most unique and speaking monuments of the world together with its 400 000 valuable artworks.
