The church is distinguished by its ornaments.
One of the powerful examples of Western Armenian architecture is The Cathedral of Ani. Silence was maintained in this saint monument for ages; no liturgies, no baptism and no marriages. In middle ages Ani was called "A thousand and one churches", but The Cathedral of Ani was considered their queen and the ornament of the Caucasian architecture.
The Katoghike Surb Astvatsatsin cathedral of Ani was founded in 989 by the Armenian King Smbat Almighty, but the construction was finished in 1001 by the wife of the Armenian King Gagik Bagratuni queen Katranide. The church is distinguished by its ornaments. The silver cross of human height placed on the dome of the church and the giant crystal chandelier brought from India stress the majesty of the cathedral.
Though The Cathedral of Ani is in rubbles nowadays every Armenian skips a heartbeat while entering the cathedral.
