The magazine hinted the Berlin Wall, which had been built a month before.
On September 8, 1961, Life Magazine published an article entitled “The Wall Separating the World”. The magazine hinted the Berlin Wall, which had been built a month before. The editors called it “a horrible symbol”, “an obstacle between the people living in the two sides of Germany”. The article was illustrated with numerous impressive photos, which splendidly presented the given situation.
The author of one of the most famous photos is photographer Peter Leibing. The photo portrays border guard Hans Conrad Schumann jumping over the wall. Today a statue is placed on the site of the historical jump: it will perpetually remind of that event.
