Chess commentator, Armenian Chess Federation Secretary General Gagik Hovhannisyan passed away. The "Chess-64" program broadcasted by the first channel held a broadcasting longevity record. Gagik Hovhannisyan was the author and unchanged host of the program since 1972.
He was an Associate Professor of YSU, taught journalism in YSU since 1971. The devotee of chess outreach in Armenia founded the"Chess Armenia" magazine and remained its editor-in-chief till his death.
The distinguished journalist of Armenia Gagik Hovhannisyan is the author of 51 chess books, and was awarded a "Movses Khorenatsi" medal in 2007. He was a member of the Journalims Committee of the World Chess Federation (FIDE) since 1995.
