The police have spread a statement related to detaining the protestors gathered at Baghramyan Avenue on June 23.
The statement specifically reads: “Conditioned by the necessity of bringing in order the violated public order, through long-lasting negotiations the Police proposed the citizens, who had organized an illegal rally at Baghramyan Avenue, to free the place. Simultaneously, it was announced for several times with a microphone that the President of Republic is ready to listen to their demands.
The calls of the police officers were neglected by the rally organizers. The police officers repeatedly demanded that the illegal gathering be stopped, and defined a reasonable timeframe for it. The participants of the rally were forewarned of the police authority to apply relevant means if they do not stop the rally in the defined timeframe.
By the way, the participants were proposed to hold their rally at the Freedom Square or in not so busy parts of the city. The police officers implemented preventive operations avoiding usage of force against the rally participants.
Nevertheless, the negotiations did not give any result because of the organizers’ counteraction. In the given situation the Police had to use force. Dozens of offenders have been detained. There are also reporters among them. They have ignored the calls of the Police of keeping a reasonable distance from the rally place and not hindering the legal operations of the police this way becoming rally participants.”
