Robert Doisneau is a master of French humanitarian photography. Experts cannot have an idea which is Doisneau’s style. He sometimes approaches surrealism and sometimes avant-garde.
For example, once in 1948 in order to capture the response of those who look at quite a frank portrait presented at one of French exhibitions, Doisneau secretly puts the camera under a table near the picture and gets wonderful shots.
As a result, an interesting series of photos was created, where one can see peoples’ faces watching the picture considered to be quite vulgar for those times. Women watched it with surprised looks, men – with interest and pleasure.
The most famous and succeeded photo from this series is considered to be “Sidelong Glance”.
