Goude used several photos to get the final look.
American singer Grace Jones and French photographer, graphic designer Jean-Paul Goude lived and worked together for a long time. Goude has authored some covers of Jones’ album, has participated in the directing works of her stage performances. The most exciting and unique work created as a result of their joint work has been considered this photo taken in 1978, which Jean-Paul has called “Nigger Arabesque”.
Goude wanted to photograph Jones in an image where the viewers would see her both from the profile and her entire face. To get the desirable result he took numerous shots. Goude used several photos to get the final look.
The picture gained a big fame after being published in New York Magazine. Grace has used this photo in her “La Vie en rose” music video, as well as for the cover of “Island Life” album of 1985.
