Japan photojournalist Yoshito Matsushige is the only photographer, who on August 6, 1945, photographed the tragic events of Hiroshima. At the moment of the explosion Yoshito was at home, 3 kilometers from the epicenter. He wanted to go to the editorial office, when the horrible explosion took place. The photographer said the explosion was so strong that it seemed to him hundreds of needles pierced him at that moment.
Yoshito rushed to the incident site to take photos. He walked around in the ruined city for hours but took only 7 photos. Afterward he said the scene was so cruel that he just could not press the camera button.
Only 5 out of the 7 shots have been preserved. The photos gained fame in 1952, when they were published in Life Magazine.
