They consider the games in Baku more a political step as if directed for the human rights in Azerbaijan. The representative of Human Rights Watch Rachel Denber notes that during the preparations for the games there were unprecedented oppressions in Azerbaijan towards the freedom of press and liberal activists. Such policy contradicts the Olympic terms and uncovers the regime policy of Aliyev.
