In 1906 the ballet master of the Mariinsky Theatre had already shot a film, where 20 dolls were dancing. This is considered to be the first Russian animated film. Shortly a big cartoon producing company is founded, and the cartoons exciting, rejoicing and upbringing us are being created.
The Union Animation Film (Soyuzmultfilm) bloomed in the 50-80s, when 40 cartoons were produced within one year. Cartoons were often more expensive than feature films.
There are 1500 cartoons in the archive, and the owner of all of them is considered to be the Union Animation Film (Soyuzmultfilm).
