In the result of the years of struggle of the Armenian community and the efforts of the Armenian diplomats Brazil recognized the Armenian Genocide. The recognition by the upper chamber of the legislative body completed the South American political map of the recognition of the Genocide.
The Federal Senate of Brazil unanimously adopted the resolution of the Chairman of Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee, Federal Senator Aloysio Nunes Ferreira Filho and Federal Senator José Serra by which they officially recognize the Armenian Genocide.
It is written in the resolution “The Federal Senate recognizes the Genocide of the Armenian people, the centennial of which was on April 24, 2015. We value the contribution of thousands of heirs of the Armenian refugees living in Brazil in the economic, social and cultural fields. No genocide must be forgotten to prevent them from happening again.”
