Agasi Vartanyan finished his 55-day fast. He wanted to cast global attention on the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide. His friends helped him to get of the building next to the Armenian Church in Burbank and to be seated in a wheelchair.
Hundreds of American-Armenians came to encourage him. Vartanyan said that he felt good and had a great feeling of satisfaction. According to him, it was symbolic to end the fast on May 28, when Armenia celebrates the Day of the First Republic.
