It had become a key problem to replace the Russians who were leaving the front-line. The formation of the Armenian Army Corps started at the end of 1917. Major-General Movses Silikyan was appointed as commander of the Yerevan direction, Tovmas Nazarbekyan – commander of the direction of Vanadzor, and Dro was appointed as military commissar.
The Turks violated the contract on Yerznka’s ceasefire and on February 10, 1918, they reached the borders of South Caucasus without any strong resistance.
The Muslims refused to fight against the Turkish believers. The Georgian Corps handed Batumi almost without any fighting. Armenian people remained face to face with Turkish troops.
At the end of April the Turks occupied Kars without resistance. “Kars” group was formed, which was aimed at occupying the entire Eastern Armenia, then Tiflis, Baku and Trans-Caspian countries. Alexandropol fell on May 15. The road leading to Ararat Valley opened.
