For her contribution Nightingale was awarded Royal Red Cross.
The most famous nurse having outstanding contribution to the history of medicine was born on May 12, 1820. During the Crimean War Sister of Merci Florence Nightingale organized the world’s first service of Sisters of Mercy. She was accompanied by 38 assistants – sisters of mercy and nuns.
Later Florence authored 2 books; the one concerned the facts, which affected the health of the British army during the war and the other one concerned patients’ care. For her contribution Nightingale was awarded Royal Red Cross.
In 1912 a medal after her name was issued. This medal is the most respected title for a nurse.
Florence passed away at the age of 90. 64 years after her death Sisters of Mercy of 141 countries united in one organization and founded the International Council of Nurses. And the birthday of Nightingale became an international holiday.
