It is suggested that for strengthening his empire Sasanian King Khosrov Anushirvan reconstructed Shushi fortress and constructed new fortresses.
The first information on Shushi has been provided by Arab geographer Yakut al Hamav and then by Ibn al Asir. In his “Geographic Wordbook” the latter has written that Karkar River flows through Shushi.
It is suggested that for strengthening his empire Sasanian King Khosrov Anushirvan reconstructed Shushi fortress and constructed new fortresses. It is noted that in ancient times the city and the fortress were called kar (stone) and the river – karkar.
