The International Labour Day, also known as Workers’ Day, is celebrated in 142 countries. It was first celebrated in several European countries in 1890.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union the newly independent countries got rid of many holidays considering them remnants of the socialistic society and forgetting about their importance. In our country May 1 was re-established only in 2001. On August 6 by the decree of the President May 1 became the Workers’ Day in the Republic of Armenia.
