They could not even imagine where that road was leading.
On the night of April 23, 1915, the Armenian intellectuals of Constantinople started their march of death from “Haydar Pasha” railway station. The plan on dislodging and exterminating Armenian people in Western Armenia began this way.
The arrests had started still in January, but that day 250 more people were arrested and exiled. Among the detainees there were intellectuals, composers, Armenian MPs, journalists. They could not even imagine where that road was leading. Scarce but trustworthy testimonies have been preserved from their way of exile.
